Discussion:
Different routing on different smartphones

Hi

Yesterday I went for a walk with a group of people. To prepare we downloaded the same gpx on all the smartphones and imported them in OsmAnd. When we arrived at the start point, we all openend the OsmAnd app and started the navigation.
Strangly some phones showed a detour at different points, and these were not all the same for all devices. We all checked if we were in walking modus.

So why does the app show detours? And why doesn't every phone show the same detours (since we are using the same gpx)?

Thanks in advance.

Were all maps of the same date? Were you all using the België map or were
some using the Vlaanderen/Wallonië map?

Hi

Thanks for your answer.

Of the 8 phones that we were using, I think that there were 2 phones with
the belgium map, and the rest downloaded the map Vlaanderen.

If you are truly following a GPX imported from an outside source, routing
would be based on the GPX, not the underlying map. And the "turn-by-turn"
directions would show every twist of the route, rather than every pertinent
intersection. Alternatively, you might import the GPX for reference only,
then create a route to the destination. That approach would follow the
map, give true turn-by-turn directions, but might result in a detour due,
typically, to flaws in the mapping data.

Perhaps your group tried both approaches.
