How to recover map markers?

Hello,
I'm using OsmAnd Plus since long and always loved it. I am using version
3.1. always with the latest updates on a Samsung S5.

End of last month, I went on vacation to southern France, having downloaded
the map files of the area before.

After having arrived in southern France, I used OsmAnd Plus for some
navigation, but mainly using the map marker feature to remember the precise
location of sightseeing, landmarks and other places visited.

All of a sudden, OsmAnd Plus started to heavily slow down. I finished and
restarted it, no help. I also turn off and on the mobile phone, but OsmAnd
Plus kept working verrrry slow. However I still continued to use it, just
had to spend more time for every action. However, when moving the map or
zooming it, OsmAnd quit working (died completely) after approximately 3 or
4 move or zoom actions. I still used OsmAnd Plus for another 2 or 3 days,
until all of a sudden OsmAnd Plus stopped working at all. Whenever I tried
to start it, it gave me an error message and immediately died.

From this moment on I could not use OsmAnd Plus at all!!!

To try to get OsmAnd Plus back into operation as quickly as possible, I
uninstalled OsmAnd Plus and reinstalled it. And yes, it worked fine again.

However I had lost my favourites and my map markers!

I was able to recover my favourites because I had saved my
favourites-backup file before uninstalling. From that i could at least
recover my favourites.

However, I could not find the location of my map markers and therefore was
not able to to save and later restore my (more than 150!) map markers. They
seem to be unrecoverably lost.

For any future mishappening, I would like to be able to also save and later
recover my map markers, but to able to do that, I would need to understand
where the map markers are saved.

Therefore: Can somebody please let me know where (in what file and possibly
what format) the map markers are kept, such that I may avoid a similar
desaster in future incidents. Please note that it does not help to
recommend to export/import of the map markers, since I can no longer use
export when OsmAnd is not willing to be started.

Thanks in advance for every bit of help!

Werner

I'm afraid the map markers are gone. These are in the hidden (for user not
accessible) /data/data directory in a database. Unless you export these
(see next), this will be deleted on app uninstall, and on new install, a
new (empty) direcory will be created.

For the future:
You can save the map markers as gpx file. The suggested name is
Markers_YYYY_MM_DD in the Osmand/tracks/map markers subdirectory.

If you have lot of map markers, OsmAnd will get slower. It is best to save
these as gpx file, and open it as needed. The gpx file works better than
the map markers.

Thank you very much for your quick and detailed response.

Yes, exporting markers before OsmAnd quits working is the right way to do,
and had I known that it would not allow me to restart it, I had saved the
markers just before the incident.

Maybe it would be a good suggestion to save map markers automatically
(similar to the saving of the favourites), such that they are accessible
even if OsmAnd refuses to get started.

But anyhow: I do like OsmAnd very much. Thanks again for your response!
